Directorial Observation Role

Updated: Feb 10

Get an inside look into a state theatre company's rehearsal room.

After seeking more wisdom and knowledge around how to direct, in the impending role of assistant directing The Wizard of Oz - Arena National Tour, I contacted Queensland Theatre asking if I could sneak my way into the rehearsal room of one of their 2019 season plays, to watch the director work. They responded with this initiative that they do called the Directorial Observation Role. All that was required was my most recent CV & Headshot and preference of plays I'd like to sit in for.

I'm sitting in on Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, directed by Jason Klarwein. Everyday I leave dripping with wisdom and inspiration [and a headache from the deep and complex conversations happening throughout the 10am - 6pm days]. I believe this opportunity is relatively new to Queensland Theatre - I certainly never knew about it. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about how a professional rehearsal room is run... also you get a mug with your name on it.

If you want to be involved I would contact them via their email on their website. I also would think that most state theatre (Sydney/Melbourne) companies would do the same.
